An Iranian court sentenced singer Mehdi Yarahee to prison and 74 lashes after he released a song that criticizes the mandatory hijab in Iran, according to his lawyer on Tuesday. Yarahee was arrested for distributing a "legally prohibited song" that challenged the "morality and norms of an Islamic society." The singer released a song titled "Roosaryeto," meaning "Your Scarf" in Persian, shortly before the anniversary of Mahsa Amini's death.
