Mainz, a competitor in the German Bundesliga, announced today, Tuesday, the appointment of Bo Henriksen as the new coach of the team until 2026, tasked with pulling the team out of the relegation zone. The 49-year-old Danish coach, coming from Zurich, will take over from Jan Siewert, who was dismissed from his position yesterday, with the team currently in second-to-last place in the league with 12 points, tied with Darmstadt at the bottom of the table.
Christian Heidel, the sports director at Mainz, stated in a press release, "We conducted an intensive analysis of the difficult situation we currently find ourselves in to determine the type of coach and playing style that suits us best. This led us to Bo Henriksen, a coach who has managed to bring his teams together and made them play practical football, yet brave and ultimately successful, several times in his career."
Mainz, who has only won once in 21 league matches this season, will host Augsburg next Saturday.
