Lebanon is sinking into a deadly political paralysis that is expected to continue until the beginning of the new year, as there are no indications of a breakthrough in the presidential file amid the lack of opportunities for consensus and the severed communication between the two dominant teams regarding the issue. In light of the internal stagnation and the absence of any mature external settlement so far, the scenario of presidential sessions will continue to repeat itself without any change, between blank ballots, awaiting the official endorsement by the Shiite duo for the candidacy of the leader of the Marada Movement, Sleiman Frangieh, or voting for MP Michel Moawad.
Meanwhile, political circles are watching what Speaker Nabih Berri will announce in the coming days, as he will initiate a bilateral dialogue with parliamentary blocs, away from the spotlight, in an effort to reach a minimum level of consensus on the presidential entitlement. According to information, Berri will begin early next week a round of consultations with the blocs to reduce the names of presidential candidates to two or three, including Sleiman Frangieh, who is the most likely to receive the support of Hezbollah, before the eighth election session next Thursday.
