The Chinese embassy in Seoul has warned its citizens about the risks of undergoing cosmetic surgery in South Korea, which range from the danger of death to significant changes in the face that make passing traveler screening procedures difficult. In a public notice, it stated: "Many foreigners have traveled to South Korea in recent years for cosmetic procedures, and some have become involved in medical disputes, suffered surgical failures, and even experienced fatalities." The Chinese embassy urged citizens to be cautious of advertisements, weigh the risks, carefully choose intermediaries, and verify that medical institutions or surgeons operate legally. According to data provider Statista, South Korea is one of the most popular destinations in the world for medical tourism, attracting foreign patients over the past ten years, most of whom are from China and the United States.
