Lebanon's caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati, during his meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy, Antonio Tajani, emphasized that "Lebanon supports a peaceful solution in the region, and that Italy and Europe play a key role in pushing toward this direction." Mikati highlighted that "Lebanon is in favor of implementing international resolutions to the letter, especially Resolution 1701, and the continuation of cooperation between the army and UNIFIL." For his part, Tajani noted that he "would conduct a tour in Lebanon and the surrounding countries to promote calm and establish peace," adding, "Italy supports Lebanon in its positions and continues to assist in maintaining calm in the south." Antonio Tajani then went on to meet with Army Commander General Joseph Aoun, in the presence of the Italian Ambassador to Lebanon, Ms. Nicoletta Bombardiere, to discuss the general situation in the region and developments along the southern border.
