The Chinese city of Shanghai recently launched the first freight train between China and Europe for 2024, according to local railway authorities. The freight train, as reported by Xinhua, carried 100 standard twenty-foot equivalent containers of goods, including air conditioners and household appliances, with a total weight of over 1000 tons and a total value exceeding 10 million yuan (approximately 1.4 million dollars). Shanghai had launched the first freight train between China and Europe in September 2021, and in 2023, it handled 100 freight train trips between China and Europe, transporting over 10,000 standard twenty-foot equivalent containers of goods.
