According to a recent report by Bloomberg, Apple intends to implement significant changes in the upcoming iOS 18 for iPhones, planning to add new features, designs, and substantial improvements in performance and security. Bloomberg claims that Apple views iOS 18 as an "ambitious and revolutionary release," coming after a few years of relatively modest updates to the iOS operating system. The company hopes that the new system will help boost sales of the iPhone 16 next year.
iOS 14, released in 2020, was the last major update for iPhones, with its notable features including support for widget additions to the home screen. Bloomberg did not specify any particular features coming in iOS 18. However, previous reports have indicated that Apple is heavily relying on generative AI features and large language models, which it is developing internally, with a significant manifestation expected to be an updated and improved version of the personal assistant "Siri."
Another recent report from the agency stated that Apple has faced numerous bugs and issues with the upcoming new operating systems, including iOS 18, leading it to temporarily halt the development of new features. The new Apple operating systems are expected to be revealed during the company’s annual developers' conference, held in the middle of each year, followed by a beta testing period for these systems before their official release to all users in the fall.
