Suez Canal Authority Chairman, Admiral Osama Rabie, stated today, Wednesday, that "the authority is keen on continuous consultation with clients and direct coordination to identify joint operational mechanisms that can mitigate the effects of the current crisis in the Red Sea." During a meeting with Sorin Toft, the CEO of the "MSC" group, he pointed out that "the crisis imposes further challenges on trade traffic passing through the canal and global supply chains." Since mid-November, the Houthis have been attacking commercial ships in the Red Sea in support of the Palestinians in Gaza, disrupting global shipping movement and forcing companies to change their routes to longer and more costly alternatives.
