An anonymous American official reported that American soldiers suffered minor injuries, while one member of the Iraqi security forces was seriously injured in an attack on the Ain al-Asad airbase in Iraq yesterday, Saturday. The U.S. Central Command stated in a release that the base was targeted by several ballistic missiles and other types of rockets launched by Iranian-backed factions within Iraq. The statement did not confirm the extent of injuries among American soldiers but noted that they are undergoing examinations to assess potential brain injuries. The U.S. military's assessment was stronger than initial accounts of the incident from security sources in Iraq, which stated, along with a source in the Iraqi government, that the base was only subjected to a missile attack.
