Tunisia Drowns in Darkness After Sudden Power Outage

The Director of Cooperation and Communication at the Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company, Monir Ghabbari, confirmed that the power outage affected the entire country. Ghabbari added in a post on his Facebook account that the causes of the blackout are still unknown. He pointed out that there is no truth to the rumors about an explosion at the Rades station, confirming that technical teams are working to restore power.

The Tunisian Ministry of Interior stated that the security situation is stable and that security forces continue to maintain public safety. The statement noted: "Following the power outage in several regions of the Republic on the morning of September 20, 2023, at 2 AM, the Ministry of Interior confirms that the security situation is stable, and its units continue to maintain public order and protect citizens and both public and private properties. Minister of Interior Kamel Fekih visited the power station in Rades to investigate the reasons for this malfunction."

According to local media, a fire broke out at the Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company's station in Rades. Civil protection rushed to extinguish the fire, which caused the power outage in most of the country's governorates.
