Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag believes that "his team has a squad capable of standing up to the strongest teams in the Premier League" and is hopeful that they will regain their former excellence when the absent players return from injury. He told reporters last night: "I think the reason this has negatively impacted us is that these issues came at difficult times. We had to face all of this, but everyone understands that the absence of such key players adversely affects the team's results. Nevertheless, we are in a position where we can change this situation and our season."
The Dutch manager added: "I am confident that when the players return, we will have a good and strong squad. Liverpool was at the top of the table (at the beginning of last week) and we were competing with them. This team, and this squad, is strong when everyone is present, and we can then win against any team."
United will visit West Ham United later today, before hosting second-placed Aston Villa next Tuesday. United currently sits seventh among the twenty Premier League teams, trailing by six points behind the top four after failing to score against opponents in their last three matches, losing to Bournemouth and Bayern Munich, and drawing goalless at Liverpool's ground. Currently, Casemiro, Lisandro Martinez, Mason Mount, Tyrell Malacia, Victor Lindelof, and Amad Diallo are injured and unavailable for United's squad.
