Volcano Eruption on Suwanosejima Island

The Japanese government announced today, Saturday, that a volcano has erupted on the remote island of Suwanosejima in southwestern Japan. The public broadcaster NHK reported, citing a police station in Kagoshima Prefecture, that "no damage has been confirmed from the eruption." The government later issued a level three volcano warning, out of five levels, in Suwanosejima, which imposes restrictions on access to the dangerous areas surrounding the volcano.
