Shooting Incident in Tel Aviv: Casualties and Assailant's Message

An Israeli was killed and at least three others were injured in a shooting on a busy café street in central Tel Aviv, just meters away from an opposition demonstration. Preliminary footage from the shooting scene in Tel Aviv has emerged.

According to Israeli media, the police were able to pursue the gunman and kill him. Palestinian media identified the assailant as Kamal Abu Bakr, 22, from the village of Rummana west of Jenin. The shooter left a message in his pocket confirming that he did not belong to any group, party, or movement.

Tel Aviv Mayor Ron Huldai informed Israeli public broadcasting that the suspected attacker was shot dead by an officer patrolling the city. He added that the man who was attacked was a municipal employee tasked with patrolling the area. The mayor noted that the victim approached the assailant after noticing something suspicious before the latter opened fire.

The shooting occurred the day after a Palestinian youth was killed in an attack by Israeli civilians on a Palestinian village in the occupied West Bank. Washington expressed concern over the increasing attacks by Jewish settlers against Palestinian villages in the West Bank, which has seen rising violence since last year amid intensified Israeli raids and Palestinian street attacks on Israelis.
