The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) announced on Wednesday that 102 of its staff members have been killed in the Gaza Strip, marking the highest number of UN humanitarian workers who have died in conflict in the history of the United Nations. The agency expressed concern over a recent report stating that Israeli forces entered one of UNRWA’s schools in Gaza and used it for military operations, and it is conducting an investigation into the matter.
Additionally, the agency emphasized that its current supplies only meet 39% of food needs, and just 1% of water and sanitation, as well as hygiene needs in shelters. It noted that it has become increasingly difficult to obtain figures and information, especially in the central region, due to significant communications outages. In some areas, telecommunications companies have ceased operations. Communication is expected to stop starting Thursday, November 16, as fuel necessary for operating data centers and main connection sites for telecom companies runs out.
