Response from Samir Geagea after Judge Aoun's Allegations against Hawwat

A statement was issued by the President of the Lebanese Forces Party, Samir Geagea, as follows: When matters are turned upside down, and those who are supposed to uphold the law go against it and disregard it, while claiming against someone exercising their constitutional and legal right, it is necessary to restore matters to their proper order and return rights to their owners.

How is it that a judge, who is supposed to be the strongest advocate of the law and its provisions, would act in a manner that violates the law? How could a judge allow herself to file a claim against MP Ziyad Hawwat simply for expressing his opinion in the context of exercising his parliamentary mandate? How could she overlook the obligations of her position and appear on television in an attempt to prevent MP Hawwat from voicing his opinion?

Moreover, how could a judge forget or ignore Article 39 of the Constitution, which explicitly states: "No criminal complaint may be filed against any member of the Council of Deputies for opinions and thoughts expressed during their term"?

What took place with Judge Ghada Aoun’s allegations against MP Ziyad Hawwat represents a peak violation of the law, and thus, we, as the Lebanese Forces Party and the Strong Republic Bloc, will do everything necessary to rescue the law from those who were initially entrusted with the task of applying and preserving it. Consequently, the Lebanese Forces have formed a legal team led by Deputy Party President, MP George Adwan, to take all necessary legal actions to revive Lebanese law.
