At least 17 people were injured in a collision between two trains in northern Italy late yesterday, Sunday, according to the fire department and the train operating company. The fire department stated in a social media post that a high-speed train and a regional train collided on the railway line connecting the cities of Bologna and Rimini, adding that at least 17 people sustained minor injuries. A spokesperson for Trenitalia, the national train operating company, confirmed that the injuries were limited to bruises. He noted, "The collision was at very low speeds," and indicated that an investigation is underway. Pictures released by firefighters showed the fronts of the two trains colliding, but the front of the regional train remained intact. Transport Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini stated that he is closely monitoring the situation and seeking information about what happened and any potential responsibilities.
