The Supreme Judicial Council of Iraq issued a clarification today, Tuesday, regarding what was circulated in a media outlet about an increase in suicide cases, confirming that there are no official statistics for the year 2015 issued by them. The council stated that "the information circulated on one of the satellite channels regarding the increase in suicide cases is inaccurate, incorrect, and contrary to the truth, after a guest mentioned that suicide cases increased from 2015 to 2022."
The council emphasized "the absence of any official statistics for the year 2015 issued by us," after it was mentioned in the television program that the statistics for that year recorded 376 suicide cases, and that the statistics for 2022 recorded 1,073 cases. The council added: "Meanwhile, our official statistics indicate that there were 476 suicide cases, which differs from what was mentioned in the television program."
The council urged all media outlets, whether visual, audio, or printed, to "exercise caution in conveying any information and to rely on the official website of the Supreme Judicial Council and the official pages (Facebook - X platform - Telegram) under the name (Judicial Media)."
