The team of Spanish motorcycle racer Carles Falcon announced that he passed away on Monday after more than a week of being in medically induced coma following an accident in the Dakar Rally in Saudi Arabia. Falcon, 45 years old, was seriously injured after falling during the second stage of the rally on January 7. Race director David Castera informed journalists at the time that the racer, who was competing in the endurance race for the second time, had his heart revived by a doctor who rushed to the scene after the racer’s pulse had stopped. The Twin Trail racing team stated in a post on their Instagram account, "Carles has left us, the medical team confirmed that the neurological damage caused by the stoppage of the heart and respiratory system at the time of the accident was irreparable." "Carles was always a smiling and energetic person, and he enjoyed passionately everything he did, especially motorcycling. He left us while doing something he had always dreamed of, racing in Dakar."
