Landslide in the Philippines Buries Two Buses and Injures 11 People

Philippine officials said today, Wednesday, that a landslide caused by heavy rainfall in southern Philippines buried two passenger buses under mud and injured at least 11 people. Apex Mining Company stated that the landslide occurred on Tuesday evening outside a gold mining site in Maco, Davao de Oro province, where the buses were transporting workers from the site. The number of passengers on board the buses is still unclear. The Disaster Management Agency in Maco reported on its Facebook platform today that the injured, including one person in critical condition, were taken to the hospital. The Disaster Management Agency has ordered the evacuation of three villages in Maco located on Mindanao Island. Data from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council indicated that monsoon winds and a weather disturbance caused rainfall in the southern Mindanao region from January 28 to February 2, leading to floods and landslides that resulted in fatalities.
