French deputies have decided to file a complaint against journalist Pascal Praud with the regulatory authority for audiovisual and digital communications after he linked the spread of "bedbugs" in public places to the personal hygiene of undocumented refugees in France, describing those comments as "racist." During a program on the local channel "C News," Praud associated the increase in bedbugs with the rising number of undocumented migrants in France, justifying it by saying, "their personal hygiene is poorer compared to residents, due to homelessness and difficulty accessing sanitary facilities." Praud said at the beginning of the episode: "Do we know why there are more bedbugs today? Is it related to hygiene? I will ask all the questions. There is a lot of migration right now. Are the people who do not have the same health conditions as those on French soil the ones bringing them? Is it because they are on the streets? Is it because they perhaps do not have access to all the services like others? Is this related?" In response, program guest Nicolas Rou de Bésieux, founder and director of a pest management platform, firmly answered Praud's question by saying, "Absolutely not," before warning Praud about an emerging debate on social media.
