An Egyptian Cabinet statement released today, Wednesday, citing the Egyptian Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Authority, announced that the authority has granted permission to construct the fourth and final unit at the Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant, with a capacity of up to 1200 megawatts. In June 2022, the state-owned Russian nuclear energy company, Rosatom, announced that it had received approval from an Egyptian regulatory authority to begin construction on the country's first nuclear power plant, which consists of four units, each with a capacity of 1200 megawatts. The authority stated in its announcement that "the safety of people, the environment, and property across all Egyptian territories has been verified against potential hazards." It added that permission was granted for the construction of the first unit in June 2022, the second unit in October 2022, and the third unit in March 2023. Egypt and Russia signed an agreement to commence work on the Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant during a meeting in Cairo between President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and President Vladimir Putin in 2017.
