Approximately 1,800 people found themselves trapped in Tottori Prefecture in southwestern Japan, and around 50 were injured in various areas due to Typhoon "Lan," which hit the Japan Sea coast last night, according to NHK. Japanese meteorological officials stated that tropical storm "Lan" is likely to bring heavy rainfall to the Tokai and Hokuriku regions today, Wednesday.
Authorities in Shizuoka Prefecture, west of Tokyo, issued evacuation orders for over 380,000 residents in two cities, as the rain heightened the risk of landslides. High-speed Shinkansen train services were suspended in Shizuoka.
According to the latest data, at least 49 people were injured in eight Japanese prefectures due to the typhoon, with at least one person in critical condition. Severe weather conditions and heavy rain have destroyed several infrastructure facilities in western Japan, leading to temporary disruptions in air travel.
The Japanese meteorological agency reported that the storm is moving north-northeast over the Japan Sea at a speed of 20 kilometers per hour. It is expected to continue moving further north, affecting northern Hokkaido Island and then the Russian island of Sakhalin.
