Many areas in the Indian capital, New Delhi, were submerged today, Friday, after the waters of the Yamuna River, which flows through the city, surged through a broken water drainage structure. The floods completely inundated houses, along with disabled trucks and buses at several locations, with only the windshields and roofs visible above the water's surface.
The state government confirmed that "the drainage structure near the Indraprastha Metro Station had been malfunctioning for a long time and completely failed around 13:30 GMT yesterday, Thursday." The damage caused by the structure led to the flooding of the Yamuna River, resulting in its waters flowing backward toward the city.
