France has banned the sale of "iPhone 12" phones on its territory due to these devices, launched by Apple in 2020, exceeding the maximum limits of electromagnetic waves emitted, which are absorbed by the human body, according to the National Frequency Agency. The agency clarified that it has asked the company to "mobilize all available resources to remedy this issue promptly. If it fails to do so, Apple will have to recall the units that have already been sold." French Minister of Digital Affairs Jean-Noël Barrot stated in an interview with "Le Parisien": "I have confidence in the company's sense of responsibility that makes it comply with our regulations. My job is to enforce them. If it doesn’t do that, I am ready to order the recall of the circulating iPhone 12 devices." He indicated that making the smartphone compliant with the standards "requires a simple software update." Apple has a deadline of 15 days to comply.
