Lebanon Participates in the Opening Ceremony of the Special Olympics World Games

Lebanon participated in the opening ceremony of the 16th edition of the Special Olympics World Summer Games, which will continue until the 25th of this month in the German capital, Berlin. The Lebanese ambassador to Germany, Mustafa Adib, ensured to join the National Cedar delegation at the grand and widely attended opening ceremony, remaining with the members until after the show, which took place at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin, where the Olympic Flame of Hope was lit to mark the beginning of the event held every two years. This current edition features 7,000 athletes representing 170 countries, competing in 26 Olympic sports. The Lebanese Special Olympics delegation is participating in the World Championship with the support of Whish Money, consisting of 17 male and female athletes competing in 7 sports. The opening ceremony was attended by German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, who announced the launch of the largest sporting competition of its kind, making this championship the biggest sporting event held in Germany since the 1972 Olympics in Munich.
