Guterres Urges Leaders at COP28 to Agree on Significant Emission Reductions

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres urged leaders at the COP28 climate summit to agree on significant emission reductions to prevent global warming from exceeding 1.5 degrees Celsius. Speaking at the Doha Forum, Guterres stated, "Despite commitments, emissions have reached a record level, and fossil fuels are the main cause." He added, "Unfortunately, the Security Council has failed to act on this, but that does not diminish the necessity to do so," and continued, "I will not give up." He affirmed that he would "not abandon the call for a humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza."
