Residents of the Kanto region in central Japan, which includes Tokyo, reported seeing an exceptionally bright meteor this morning, Monday, according to NHK. Fuji Daichi, a specialist in astronomy at the Hiratsuka City Museum in Kanagawa Prefecture, near Tokyo, stated that "cameras installed at his home in Hiratsuka and in the neighboring Shizuoka Prefecture captured the phenomenon known as a fireball just before 7 a.m."
Fuji noted that he was surprised to "see a bright fireball shortly after sunrise," adding that the brightness indicates that the meteor's diameter is several tens of centimeters, which is rare. He explained that "reports of a loud noise also suggest that the meteor may have struck the Earth." The footage shows a ball of light flying across the dawn sky for a few seconds before disappearing.
