The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants in the caretaker government, Abdullah Bouhabib, congratulated Lebanese-French novelist Amin Maalouf on his election as permanent Secretary of the French Academy, stating: "With great pride and honor, I received the news of your election as permanent Secretary of the French Academy, a position that I have no doubt you deserve fully. This comes thirty years after you won the Prix Goncourt for your novel 'The Rock of Tanios,' and twelve years after you entered the esteemed French Academy. This sentiment is shared by all Lebanese who take pride in one of our own reaching such a prestigious position, making you the leading custodian of the French language, which you have profoundly explored for decades. I wish you ample success and achievement in the new role you have been entrusted with, as you are an excellent ambassador of the deep-rooted cultural ties that unite Lebanon and France, both government and people, strengthening the bridges of dialogue and convergence between the two identities and civilizations."
