The Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, warned on Wednesday that halting funding for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) will have "catastrophic consequences" for the inhabitants of war-torn Gaza. He stated, "The decisions made by several countries to stop funding for UNRWA, the largest provider of humanitarian assistance in this crisis, will have catastrophic consequences for the people of Gaza." Ghebreyesus added, "No other entity has the capacity to provide the scale and scope of assistance urgently needed by 2.2 million people in Gaza, and we are urging a reconsideration of these decisions."
