Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu informed President Vladimir Putin that "Russian troops have completely taken control of Marinka in eastern Ukraine, one of the most significant gains for Russia since taking Bakhmut in May." Putin noted that the capture of the town, which previously had a population of ten thousand, will allow Russian forces to push hostile combat units away from Donetsk. Marinka is located southwest of Donetsk, the regional center controlled by Russia. In a video shared online by a Kremlin journalist, Putin stated: "Our forces now have the opportunity to reach a wider operational area."
