Armenia and Azerbaijan Exchange Prisoners at the Border

Reuters reported today that "Azerbaijan and Armenia exchanged war prisoners at their border, in a step towards normalizing relations after Azerbaijan made significant progress in the ongoing conflict between the two countries for decades." Earlier today, the Russian news agency TASS mentioned that "Armenia and Azerbaijan are also discussing the withdrawal of troops from the shared border, but no decision has been made yet." The exchange is expected to involve Azerbaijan releasing 32 Armenians, most of whom were captured in late 2020. In return, Armenia handed over two Azerbaijani soldiers who had been detained since April 2023.
