Hamas leader Osama Hamdan revealed the behind-the-scenes discussions regarding a prisoner exchange agreement and a ceasefire in Gaza, as well as what is being discussed with intermediaries. In statements made on Friday, reported by Al Jazeera, Hamdan stated that the intermediaries are not trying to impose a vision on Hamas but rather offer assistance and protect the Palestinian people.
Hamdan pointed out that there is no concrete idea yet, but the core is a complete and comprehensive cessation of aggression against the Gaza Strip. He mentioned that the proposals made did not include a prisoner exchange in exchange for a month-long ceasefire. Hamdan confirmed that Hamas and the Palestinian resistance have the tools and capabilities to enforce a ceasefire.
He stated that the movement has informed all intermediaries that its priority is to completely end the aggression against Gaza. Hamdan emphasized that there is no discussion of an exchange, as promoted by Tel Aviv, before the cessation of aggression, indicating that the occupation's exit from its predicament has one path: stopping the aggression and making concessions. He explained that Netanyahu does not have the luxury of continuous rejection due to public pressure and government crisis, stressing that the occupying government is attempting to leak incorrect ideas that suit it to alleviate internal pressure.
