New Data on the Arrest of William Noun... Expected Popular Movements

New information has revealed that William Noun's lawyer, Shukri Haddad, received a call from the Beirut judicial police station some time ago, informing him about a patrol from this station heading to the State Security Directorate in Ramlet El-Baidar to execute a search and investigation warrant against Noun. Additionally, MTV has disclosed that popular movements are anticipated throughout all areas if Noun is not released soon.

Regarding the recent developments surrounding the arrest of activist William Noun, LBCI sources confirmed that Noun's attorney, Shukri Haddad, attempted to contact Judge Zahir Hamada to inform him that a search and investigation warrant had been issued against him in violation of the law, as he had been informed that the interrogation was scheduled for Monday and had committed to attending. However, the warrant was issued despite his compliance with legal procedures, which constitutes a severe violation by the judicial police and a mistake in his indication. The sources stated: "However, the judge decided to refuse to record anything in the investigation report and hung up on the lawyer."

LBCI information had indicated that Beirut Prosecutor Zahir Hamada had given instructions to detain Noun regarding the open case before State Security following his statements outside the Beirut Courthouse, with the intention of handing him over to Beirut's investigations according to the search and investigation warrant on the open case concerning the assault on the courthouse. It was revealed that his detention was based on a judicial decision, and he was transferred to the Ramlet El-Baidar center where he was interrogated by the head of the investigation section in State Security in the presence of Noun's lawyer and MP Melhem Khalaf.

In this context, MP Salim Al-Sayegh confirmed in a statement from inside the General Directorate of State Security that "there was no previously written warrant for search and investigation against Noun; it has just been issued now, and legal procedures are being prepared to keep Noun detained until Monday."
