Senior security officials in Chechnya announced on Sunday that the 15-year-old son of Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov, who was filmed striking a detainee earlier this year, has been appointed to a senior position within his father's personal guard unit. Closely associated with the Chechen leader praised Adam Kadyrov, who will turn 16 this month, for his bravery and congratulated him on the new appointment. In September, Adam faced widespread condemnation, including from pro-Kremlin militants, after his father shared a video on social media showing the boy punching and kicking a prisoner accused of burning a copy of the Quran. Zamid Shaliyev, a senior security official for Kadyrov, stated that Adam has been appointed head of the Chief Security Management for the Chechen leader, making him one of Kadyrov's top guards. Kadyrov's press office did not respond to a request for comment from Reuters. Russian media reported on Saturday that Kadyrov's son received the title of Hero of Chechnya in October.
