A video has surfaced showing former U.S. President Jimmy Carter criticizing Israel, asserting that there are lobbying forces within Congress preventing any opposition to the actions of the Israeli state. In the video, which has been widely shared by social media activists, Carter responds to a question posed by a broadcaster regarding his reluctance to make his observations known concerning Palestine as a former President of the United States. Carter replied, "No one wants to know; Americans do not want to know, and many Israelis also do not want to know how many atrocities the state of Israel is committing against the Palestinians."
Carter, who oversaw the first peace treaty between an Arab state and Israel, with American sponsorship—specifically Egypt under Anwar Sadat—echoes a truth acknowledged by many others and not a "conspiracy theory." He added, “What is happening in Palestine is a humanitarian catastrophe and a violation of human rights in every form. For years, Israel has exercised organized violence and complete brutality against the Palestinians, and no one is moving. In Congress, no one can point to the atrocities being committed by Israel, simply because they will not be there in the next congressional session.”
