Lebanon's Minister of Interior and Municipalities Bassam Mawlawi confirmed today, Friday, that the agencies under the Ministry of Interior enforce the law, and that the General Directorate of General Security is fulfilling its role in protecting Lebanon and Lebanese law, not violating human rights, but rather safeguarding the supreme interest of the state and public order.
Following his meeting with the Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament Nabih Berri, Mawlawi noted, "We will continue to enforce the law, especially regarding illegal buildings on public property."
For his part, Speaker Berri stated that "the law must be enforced on all Lebanese territory, and it is necessary for the presence of Syrians to be within the Lebanese system, and within the Lebanese framework, and they must be registered, with legal and lawful entries and exits."
Berri also endorsed the actions taken by the Ministry of Interior and security agencies to prevent violations of public properties, considering them to be properties of Lebanese citizens and the state.
Additionally, Speaker Berri met with the Egyptian Ambassador to Lebanon Yasser Alawi, where they discussed the general situations, the latest political developments, and the bilateral relations between Lebanon and the Arab Republic of Egypt. He also met with the Chinese government's special envoy for Middle Eastern affairs, Chai Jun, along with the accompanying delegation in the presence of the Chinese Ambassador to Lebanon, Qian Minjian, where they reviewed the latest developments and situations in Lebanon and the region, as well as the bilateral relations between the Lebanese Republic and the People's Republic of China.
