The Turkish parliament approved Sweden's request to join NATO today, Tuesday, after more than four hours of discussions, removing the last major obstacle to the expansion of the Western military alliance after a 20-month delay. Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson noted that "Sweden is now one step away from full membership in NATO." Kristersson added on platform X: "Today we are one step closer to becoming a full member of NATO. Positive that the Grand General Assembly of Türkiye has voted in favour of Sweden’s NATO accession."
