The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Abo el-Gheit, confirmed that he discussed preparations for the upcoming Arab summit and the Arab situation, particularly the war in Gaza, with the King of Bahrain, Sheikh Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. In a statement after his meeting with the King of Bahrain, Abo el-Gheit said, "The meeting initiates the start of the joint preparation process between the General Secretariat and the Kingdom of Bahrain for the upcoming ordinary Arab summit, which is scheduled to be held in Bahrain on May 16." He indicated that "there has been an agreement to intensify joint work between the Bahraini government and the General Secretariat in the coming period to expedite the completion of all arrangements necessary for the summit to be held successfully, both substantively and logistically." Abo el-Gheit explained that "the meeting with His Majesty the King was rich and featured a lengthy discussion about the overall Arab situation, especially the Israeli war on Gaza and its regional impacts."
