A Syrian engineer and five Egyptian workers died from suffocation while inspecting a "manhole" project in Helwan. According to details, the Syrian engineer descended into the manhole, which is over 40 meters deep, to check on the work, when a "gas pipe" exploded during installation. After an hour of his descent into the manhole, another worker went down to check the situation and also did not come out, leading everyone to realize they had suffocated. The project's guard informed the police about the incident, stating, "The workers and the engineer went into the manhole and haven't come out since 9 in the morning." Two members of the civil protection team went down to investigate but emerged suffocated and had to be rushed to the hospital, with none able to see the victims' location. The guard mentioned, "When the engineer Talha went down, a pipe exploded and swept him away; he inhaled choking gases. When the other workers went down to check on him, they suffered from suffocation and went into pipes approximately 700 meters away from the manhole." A team from the public prosecution is examining the accident site, and has ordered the responsible officials from the local area to be summoned, while investigations are ongoing. A team also went to Helwan General Hospital to examine the victims' bodies. A health inspector confirmed that they died from "asphyxia due to suffocation."
