A source familiar with the matter revealed to Reuters on Tuesday that the agreement mediated by Qatar between Israel and the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) for the release of hostages and a temporary ceasefire is in its "final stages" and is "closer than ever." The source added that the agreement stipulates the release of about 50 civilian hostages held by Hamas and the release of Palestinian women and children from Israeli prisons. This agreement would represent the largest hostage release and the first prisoner exchange since the start of the war on October 7. Hamas has held around 240 hostages during the attack on Israel, which Israeli authorities say resulted in the deaths of 1,200 people.
