The President of the Jordan Football Association, Prince Ali Bin Al-Hussein, welcomed the Jordan national team at Queen Alia International Airport in Amman after their historic achievement of finishing as runners-up in the Asian Cup, behind defending champions Qatar. During his remarks to the media, Prince Ali stated, "Congratulations to the Nashama, to the capable captain Hussein Amouta, and to the officiating team," before bursting into laughter after mistakenly referring to the "refereeing team" instead of the "coaching staff" led by the Moroccan coach. He continued laughing, "Also, congratulations to them... we mixed it up," and perhaps the "slip of the tongue" was somewhat wise, as the officiating team faced criticism from some Jordanian fans regarding certain "correct" decisions, especially the awarding of three penalty kicks in the final match, which ended with Qatar winning against Jordan (3-1) last Saturday at Lusail Stadium.
