Maersk Prepares to Resume Operations in the Red Sea

Danish shipping company Maersk announced on Sunday that it is preparing to resume its operations in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, attributing its decision to the deployment of a U.S.-led military force aimed at ensuring trade safety in the region. The giant shipping company temporarily halted sending ships through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait this month due to attacks on its vessels, which rendered the Suez Canal, critical for global trade, unusable for most routes. Maersk stated in a press release, "As of today, we have received confirmation that the previously announced multinational security initiative 'Prosperity Initiative' has been established and deployed to allow maritime trade to pass through the Red Sea/Gulf of Aden and return to using the Suez Canal as a gateway between Asia and Europe." It added, "With this initiative activated, we are preparing to allow ships headed east and west to resume passage through the Red Sea."
