"The White Paper" Defuses Tensions Between the Party and the Movement

The option of voting with a white paper is a reality among the March 8 forces, and it cannot be denied, despite the "zigzagging" practiced by the "Free Patriotic Movement" against Hezbollah, claiming it would endorse a presidential candidate in the upcoming election sessions, after the movement's deputies promoted their leader Gibran Bassil's initiative. However, according to information, matters are still dependent on consultations, and there will be no movement to propose a name supported by the deputies of the "Strong Lebanon" bloc in the presidential election session scheduled for next Thursday, which was called by President Nabih Berri this morning, thus it will not bring any new developments to break the deadlock.

Here, the image of the cool relations between the party and the movement appears to be superficial, practically concealing an undeniable truth that the "jar" between them will not break definitively, and the movement will not step out from under the party's shadow, especially since the new divergences regarding the government and holding sessions for it are on the verge of resolution, according to well-informed circles. Additionally, the movement, led by Bassil, is avoiding confrontation with the party, thus defusing the explosive situation.

Amid the tiresome presidential "melody," the process of stagnation has become very apparent among the majority of the political forces involved in the file, amidst disagreements, fractures, and factional rivalries, with each party attempting to outsmart the others to achieve its own gain. However, the most dangerous element in this grim scene is the pouring of oil on the fire due to the governmental struggle over the electricity file, which has led to a halt in the exceptional approval for opening credits to pay dues for the floating fuel ships anchored off the Lebanese coast, costing the state vast amounts of money daily in thousands of dollars.

In this regard, "Akhbar Al-Yawm" agency learned that there are serious consultations for an anticipated government session, which will limit its agenda to two main items: a treasury advance for Electricité du Liban and the topic of the electricity tender.
