The Brazilian Football Confederation officially announced today, Wednesday, the appointment of Dorigal Junior as the new coach of the national team. The confederation stated in a press release: "Dorigal Junior is the new coach of the men's national team. He will be introduced in a press conference on Thursday at the headquarters of the Brazilian Football Confederation in Rio de Janeiro." The 61-year-old coach confirmed last Sunday his decision to leave his position at São Paulo to take on the role of coaching Brazil after the Brazilian Football Confederation decided to dismiss interim coach Fernando Diniz from his post on Friday. Dorigal led Flamengo to win the Copa Libertadores and the Copa do Brasil in 2022 before moving to São Paulo. He has also coached Atlético Mineiro, Atlético Paranaense, Internacional, Vasco da Gama, Fluminense, and Palmeiras. Brazil's national team is currently in sixth place in the South American qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, having achieved only two wins in six matches and suffered three losses.
