The General Directorate of Internal Security Forces - Public Relations Division, released the following statement on Wednesday: "Recently, several thefts have occurred targeting a number of homes and buildings under construction in the town of Mazraat al-Chouf. As a result of intensive follow-up and investigations conducted by the Beiteddine Judicial Police, two individuals were suspected of being involved in these thefts, and they intended to commit additional thefts. They are: J. A. K. (born in 1982, Lebanese) and A. A. H. (born in 1979, Lebanese). They were placed under tight surveillance for over twenty days, and on December 11, 2023, they were spotted at night in a black four-wheel-drive vehicle, a 'Blazer.' They were pursued by a patrol from the aforementioned division, and when they arrived at one of the homes intended for theft in the town of Mazraat, one of them entered the house. A force from the division apprehended them. The first was caught while monitoring the surroundings of the house, while the second was caught in the act of stealing air conditioning units from the home. During the investigation, they confessed to the charges against them and to committing over ten thefts, including plumbing tools, iron supports, air conditioning units, copper wires, and others, some of which were carried out through breaking and entering. They admitted that they sold the stolen goods to individuals A. B. (born in 1992, Lebanese) and A. Z. (born in 1983, Lebanese), who were also arrested. Legal proceedings were initiated against the detainees, and they, along with the seized items, were handed over to the relevant authority, in accordance with the directives of the competent judiciary."
