The Maronite bishops announced their rejection of "dragging Lebanon into the Israeli-Palestinian war, which Arab countries have distanced themselves from, and we call for protecting our people in the south from harm affecting all of Lebanon." They added in their monthly statement: "We hope for good outcomes from the efforts of certain MPs to hold open sessions for the election of a president." The Maronite bishops also warned "against compromising Lebanon's sovereignty and its oil wealth, and we lament the unfortunate state the government has reached in issuing the budget." They continued: "We are concerned about the conditions in most areas due to the Syrian refugees, and we call for regulating this presence and subjecting it to the laws."
