Dutch Police Arrest More Than 200 During New Year's Eve Riots

The Dutch police announced on Monday that they "arrested more than 200 people on New Year’s Eve during riots across the country, in which dozens of police officers were injured." Police in several cities were attacked with fireworks and stones. The police in Rotterdam reported that "more than 100 cars and other vehicles were set on fire, while riot squads were needed to disperse violent crowds in Amsterdam, The Hague, and other cities." Riot squads were also deployed nationwide to assist fire crews that were attacked with fireworks while trying to extinguish numerous fires. In the city of Haarlem, police noted that a 19-year-old young man died from his injuries sustained in a fireworks incident just before midnight on Sunday.
