Tesla has recalled 200,000 vehicles in the United States due to a malfunction in the backup camera, according to "Engadget". Some reports indicate that the cameras, which assist the driver in reversing the vehicle, will not function in this mode, making the issue very significant and related to personal safety. The recall includes some "Model Y, Model S, and Model X" vehicles from the year 2023. The company states that it delivered 1.8 million vehicles in 2023, accounting for over 10 percent of its annual production.
For its part, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) issued a statement regarding the matter, confirming that the issue is software-related, which is the cause of the malfunction, according to Reuters. The site reported that Tesla became aware of the problem in December and decided to initiate the recall on January 12. Customers will receive a letter notifying them of the problem by March 22.
Despite this, the company asserts that it is not aware of any incidents, injuries, or fatalities related to the malfunction. However, this latest recall comes just six weeks after Tesla recalled more than two million vehicles due to serious safety issues associated with the Autopilot driver assistance system.
