Solidarity with Gaza: Sharjah Bans Fireworks on New Year's Eve

The Emirate of Sharjah has banned fireworks celebrations on New Year's Eve as a sign of solidarity with the people of Gaza. Sharjah Police announced the decision in a Facebook post on Tuesday, warning that they would take legal action against those who violate the instructions. The police stated: "The prohibition of fireworks celebrations and displays is a sincere expression of solidarity and humanitarian cooperation with our brothers in Gaza." Sharjah is one of the seven emirates that make up the United Arab Emirates and is one of the few Arab countries that has official relations with Israel. It is the third largest emirate by area and population after Abu Dhabi and Dubai, affirming that humanitarian solidarity is an entrenched principle followed by the Emirate of Sharjah.
