Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi stated today, Wednesday, that "Cairo plays a very positive role in attempting to contain the escalation in Gaza and reach a diplomatic solution to the conflict between Israel and the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas)." While inspecting dozens of Egyptian warplanes, tanks, and other military equipment during a training exercise on the western side of the Sinai Peninsula, approximately 215 kilometers from the Egyptian border with Gaza, he remarked that "although Egypt has significant military capabilities, it will only use them wisely and in self-defense." Egypt is actively involved in negotiating the delivery of aid to the residents of the Gaza Strip through the Rafah crossing at its border with the territory, as well as in negotiations for the release of hostages and calling for a ceasefire in the conflict.
